MONETARY Board members Walter Wassmer and Jose Querubin have been reappointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said on Friday.
Wassmer was first named to the board in July 2024 while Querubin followed in September. The reappointments mean they will continue to help determine policy until July 2032.
“Since joining the Monetary Board in 2024, both Mr. Wassmer and Mr. Querubin have made invaluable contributions to the Board’s deliberations and decision-making,” BSP Governor Eli Remolona Jr. said in a statement.
“Their expertise in financial markets, commercial banking, and risk management complements the Board’s strength in economics, public service, and business,” he added.
Wassmer was previously senior executive vice president and head of institutional banking at BDO until he retired in 2022. He joined the BDO board during that year and was part of the executive, trust, risk management and related party transactions committees.
He also worked at Far East Bank & Trust Co., UnionBank of the Philippines, Bancom Finance Corp., and IFC Leasing and Acceptance Corp.
Querubin, meanwhile, was president and CEO of United Coconut Planters Bank from 2003 to 2007. He also served as board member of Asean Finance Corp,, which is now known as the AFC Merchant Bank.
He held senior positions at the Bank of America, Solid Bank Corp. and Citibank, was resident and CEO at Megalink and Bankers Association of the Philippines secretary.
