MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres to tackle various issues, including the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, Malacañang said Tuesday.

Marcos held a bilateral meeting with Guterres on Monday at the UN headquarters in New York on the sidelines of his working visit to the United States, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.

The PCO said the two leaders’ meeting reaffirmed the "long-standing partnership between the Philippines and the global body."

It added that the Philippines’ candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council "will be a manifestation of a further reaffirmation of this long-term partnership."

The President was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, Philippine Permanent Representative to the UN in New York Ambassador Enrique Manalo, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez, and Acting Presidential Communications Secretary Dave Gomez.
