Marcos' son and lawmaker not involved in foiled P3.5B drug smuggling attempt — Remulla

MANILA, Philippines — Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos was not involved in the foiled P3.5 billion shabu smuggling attempt in the country, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said on Monday.

“There was no grain of truth to it kasi we are hot on the trail (drug deal) na eh nung lumabas yung pangalang yun (Sandro Marcos) we tried (get facts), wala eh (There was no grain of truth to it since we are hot on the trail when his name surfaced, tried his name was not there),’’ Remulla said in a TV interview in response to inquiries that the president’s son is an alleged consignee in a mutli-billion peso drug deal.

On Oct. 1, 2026, authorities in Laos confiscated the suspected shabu at Luang Prabang International Airport, intercepting a private jet that was reportedly bound for the Philippines.

A Filipino identified as Fahad Mulok Dibarosan was arrested during the foiled smuggling of the shipment.

Remulla identified 11 persons of interest in the case, including former Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament member Edriezan Hadji Nasser Rimbang, whom he identified as the alleged financier of the operation.

Remulla said that the release of “false narratives’’ has been abundant in the internet, unlike in the traditional network where a vetting process requires that a single source is triple-checked before coming up with the news.
