MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday announced he is suspending the excise taxes on liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and kerosene to help the public cope with the rising prices of petroleum products.

In a press briefing in Malacañang, Marcos said he invoked the emergency powers granted him by Congress to slash the price of LPG by P3.36 per kilogram and kerosene by P5.60 per liter. This would take effect on April 14.

The tax cuts for gasoline and diesel, meanwhile, would be discussed on the next meeting of the Unified Package for Livelihoods, Industry, Food, and Transport (UPLIFT) Committee, the president said.
