Marcos woos Canadian investors in mining, critical minerals

VANCOUVER, Canada — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday (Saturday in Manila) courted top executives from several Canadian firms to explore opportunities for investment, sustainable resource development, and strengthened cooperation in the mining and energy sectors.

Marcos, along with Cabinet secretaries, met with the executives of Canadian gold mining firms B2Gold Corporation and OceanGold Corporation at Fairmont Pacific Rim in Vancouver, Canada. 

The President also led a rountable discussion on mining, critical minerals and energy as his administration continues to engage global industry leaders to promote responsible mining and sustainable investments in the Philippines.

He also witnessed the signing of memorandum of understanding between the Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Employers Federation of the Philippines and the Business Council of Canada.

In her remarks during the roundtable discussion, Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said the gathering reflected their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation in sectors that "are central to the global energy transition."

"Today's critical minerals are no longer simply commodities, they are strategic inputs that underpin clean energy systems, electric mobility, advanced manufacturing, digital infrastructure, and modern industrial economies," Roque said. 

"We see strong opportunities for partnership with Canadian companies across the entire value chain, from exploration and extraction to engineering, processing, sustainability solutions, and advanced clean technology," she added.
