Customs officials at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi have seized 17.927 kg of suspected marijuana/ganja, valued at approximately Rs 17.9 crore, and arrested two Indian passengers in connection with an alleged smuggling attempt.
According to Customs officials, the action was carried out by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) after the two passengers, who arrived separately from Bangkok and Abu Dhabi on May 12, 2026, were intercepted on the basis of profiling.
During X-ray screening and detailed examination of their personal and checked in baggage at the Green Channel, officers recovered 18 polythene packets containing the suspected narcotic substance concealed inside a dark blue trolley bag.
“The total net weight of the recovered substance was found to be 17,927 grams,” officials said.
The seized substance was subjected to diagnostic testing, which prima facie confirmed it to be ganja/marijuana.
Customs officials stated that the passengers were found to be in violation of Section 8 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and are liable for punishment under Sections 20, 23 and 29 of the Act.
