MANILA, Philippines — The Marikina City government on Monday deployed mobile booster pumps with three times the pumping capacity of existing units in flood-hit Malanday and Tumana villages after the non-operational Tumana Pumping Station contributed to flooding in the areas.
Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro said the larger pumps were deployed through the Metro Manila Council to increase water discharge and speed up the drainage of accumulated floodwater.
“We deployed larger mobile booster flood pumps to increase pumping capacity and speed up the drainage of floodwater in the affected areas of Malanday and Tumana,” Teodoro said.
Flooding was reported Sunday in Libis Bulelak and Malanday, as well as Creekside in Tumana, which Teodoro attributed to the non-operational Tumana Pumping Station in District 2.
Clearing and pumping operations are underway to accelerate the discharge of floodwater.
