MARIKINA CITY Mayor Maan Teodoro said that the amphibious dredger the city received from the Department of Public Works and Highways will accelerate desilting operations along the Marikina River in time for the onset of the rainy season.
“We will use this together with our existing dredger so we can speed up the deepening and widening of the Marikina River. A larger water-carrying capacity means we are better prepared this rainy season,” Teodoro said as she inspected the equipment on Tuesday.
Prior to the inspection, Teodoro had a pre-disaster risk assessment meeting with the Marikina Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and other concerned departments.
Among her standing orders were the sustained declogging of the city's drainage systems and waterways and the preparation of 36 evacuation centers.
Teodoro urged residents to dispose of waste properly and monitor official advisories on the Marikina River’s water level during heavy rains.
