IN celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer on June 25, 2026, the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) has officially opened nominations for the 2026 Gawad Natatanging Mandaragat.
The prestigious award recognizes Filipino seafarers who demonstrate exceptional skill, dedication, and significant contributions to the maritime industry.
Nominees are encouraged to be those who have gone above and beyond their seaborne duties by performing exemplary tasks enhancing maritime safety and environmental protection and pioneered innovative solutions or technologies for the industry.
In an official statement, Marina said that candidates must be Filipino citizens currently employed with at least 12 months of sea service and a clear professional record.
They can be nominated by licensed manning agencies, shipping companies, and nongovernment maritime organizations with their achievements and supporting documents sent to marinadotfs@gmail.com not later than Aug. 31, 2026.
Awardees will receive a token and a cash prize of P30,000 and will be honored during the National Seafarers’ Day on Sept. 27, 2026.
