Marine police foil timber theft in Semporna waters

SEMPORNA: Marine police thwarted an attempt by two men to transport suspected stolen Seraya sawn timber from the Pulau Timbun Mata forest reserve early Wednesday morning.

Sabah Region Four Marine Commander ACP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said a team on patrol in Tobo-Tobo waters intercepted a speedboat loaded with logs around 1.30am.

A local man aged 41 and a 42-year-old foreigner were detained during the operation, with the total seizure, including the boat and engine, valued at RM30,350.

Nazri said the second haul was worth RM62,014, and both cases are being investigated under relevant forestry, immigration, and supply control laws.
