PITAS: Sabah Region 4 marine police recorded 100 cases under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 from January to August this year, leading to 92 arrests and seizures exceeding RM25.2 million.
Sabah Region 4 marine police commander ACP Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said their latest success involved foiling an attempt to smuggle out 5,000 litres of subsidised petrol to a neighbouring country during a raid at a riverbank in Kampung Mapan-Mapan late Tuesday night.
Three men aged between 36 and 39 were detained at about 12.30am while allegedly transferring drums filled with petrol onto boats at the river mouth.
Officers seized 5,000 litres of petrol, 38 drum barrels, three wooden boats, boat engines, and related equipment worth an estimated RM100,000.
The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
