Marine Police seize RM720,998 in illegal scrap and e-waste

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Marine Police (PPM) Region 4, together with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the Department of Environment (Jas), conducted Op Hazard targeting two premises storing scrap and electronic waste without licenses.

In Penampang, 8 tons of car batteries were seized, while in Sandakan, various e-waste including car batteries, computer equipment, and washing machines were confiscated.

Both sites lacked proper business and tax documentation.

Cases have been handed to Jas for further action under environmental regulations and the Income Tax Act 1967.

The total estimated value of the seized items is RM720,998.

PPM Region 4 Sabah reaffirmed its commitment to combat illegal activities harming the environment and national revenue.
