- A nightly curfew for minors is expected to be introduced in Marseille until Friday, according to French media reports, following statements from prime minister Sebastien Lecornu that earlier measures helped restore "calm" across the country.
- Reports from news agency AFP and French newspaper Le Figaro indicate that the restrictions will run from 10pm (9pm BST) until 5am (4am BST) each night. Rather than applying across the whole city, the measures will target specific locations, such as areas around shopping centres.
- It comes after prime minister Sebastien Lecornu confirmed that decisions on targeted curfews would be made by local officials "on the ground, by the prefects, in coordination with the mayors".
- Last night, the French government imposed partial curfews across the country, including in Paris and Nice, after riots and looting amid nationwide protests over the weekend.
- It came after thousands of rioters were arrested during the weekend’s widespread protests, with justice minister Gérald Darmanin promising an “unrelenting” response to violence, adding authorities must show “extreme firmness toward the rioters who attack public buildings or businesses, and those who target law enforcement or firefighters.”
