KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin has dismissed calls for her to resign as Perikatan Nasional (PN) Melaka chairman and PN Women’s chief following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to step down as PN chairman, saying there is no basis for her to do so.
“My decision not to resign is not driven by any personal interest or desire to hold on to power. It is based on responsibility, organisational stability and the broader interests of PN in Melaka," she said in a statement today.
According to her, PN Melaka’s leadership remains stable and united, particularly with PAS Melaka commissioner Zulkifli Ismail and component parties, with no internal conflict that warrants her resignation.
Mas Ermieyati also pointed out that Melaka PN is entering a crucial preparation phase ahead of a possible state election within the next four to six months. Any sudden leadership change, she said, risks disrupting strategy, machinery mobilisation and ongoing groundwork.
She rejected claims that state leadership appointments automatically lapse following Muhyiddin’s resignation, saying such positions are decided collectively by PN’s supreme council.
“I am fully prepared to relinquish both positions if that is the collective and mature decision of the PN supreme council, made in the interest of the party, not due to emotional pressure or temporary sentiment,” she said.
Mas Ermieyati further questioned why only Melaka’s leadership was being targeted, when other PN-led states and state-level leaderships involving PAS and Bersatu remain unchanged.
She urged PN leaders and supporters to stop engaging in open polemics on social media, especially over the Perlis Menteri Besar issue, warning it only fuels confusion and negative perception among the public.
Mas Ermieyati expressed confidence that PN’s new leadership will be able to resolve internal disagreements and strengthen the coalition moving forward.– December 31, 2025
