THE incumbent Sabah State Assembly member for Karanaan Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has called on the Federal Government to fast-track funding for the construction of a new hospital in the district to meet the growing healthcare needs of local residents and neighbouring communities.
Speaking at a Relaxation Program with Elderly Members organised by the Kg Muhibbah Elderly Association today, Masidi said the new hospital should be equipped with specialist doctors and modern medical facilities to provide better healthcare services.
“I had a chance to discuss this matter with the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when I accompanied him on his visit to inaugurate the new Block of Tawau Hospital a few days ago. I told him that the construction of a new hospital in this district is very much needed by the community in this district,” he said.
Masidi highlighted the importance of equipping the facility with advanced machines, including cancer scanners and specialist treatment equipment, to allow local residents to undergo screening and early detection without having to travel to Kota Kinabalu.
“If there is a cancer scanning machine here, local residents, especially in this area, can undergo screening and early detection. This can indirectly help reduce the risk of cancer from becoming more serious,” he added.
He also reassured residents that before the State Assembly is dissolved, the state government will continue providing assistance of RM300 to registered low-income families, noting that political stability has enabled such programmes.
“To all the people of Sabah, let us together create political stability so that more progress can be achieved in this state,” he said.
Masidi further cited other ongoing developments, including the construction of the MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) Ranau and new roads, as part of initiatives to benefit the local population. - November 15, 2025
