BEAUFORT: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in Klias state constituency is said to be on the verge of collapse after almost all key leaders from the Beaufort PKR Division, who are based in Klias, announced their resignation from the party to join local-based party Warisan.

Former Beaufort PKR Division Treasurer, Abdullah Okin, claimed that the mass exit included many committee members who were elected in the last party polls, including 12 leaders from the Beaufort PKR Youth (AMK) wing, effectively rendering the PKR machinery in Klias “almost paralysed.”“PKR in Klias is now practically non-functional as there are no longer any active Division Committee or AMK leaders left to run party operations in this area,” Abdullah said.

Abdullah, who also served as the PKR Klias coordinator, led the group’s exit from PKR and officially joined Warisan in the presence of Warisan President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal in Kota Kinabalu recently.

“PKR in Klias almost paralysed after its branch members collectively announced their departure during a gathering at a hotel in Beaufort,” Abdullah told Daily Express when contacted.

He added that other key figures who left included the AMK deputy chief, vice-chief, and 10 other elected AMK committee members — leaving the Beaufort AMK wing completely defunct.

“See for yourself — many have followed in my footsteps to leave PKR and join Warisan,” he said, showing photos taken with the group after the meeting.

“This is not just talk. Everyone present had clearly expressed their decision to quit PKR and join Warisan,” he stressed.

Warisan is expected to field a candidate in Klias state seat, following an earlier announcement by its president that the party will contest solo in all 73 Sabah state constituencies.

The Sabah State Legislative Assembly was officially dissolved on Sunday by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, after receiving the consent of Head of State, Tun Musa Aman, paving the way for the 17th state election to be held within 60 days of the dissolution.

Also present at the meeting was Warisan Klias Coordinator, Adeli Abat.
