A strong 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar today (Mar. 28) at around 2:20pm local time, according to The Guardian and The Star.
The quake’s epicentre was detected at a depth of 30km, approximately 100km southwest of Myanmar’s second-largest city, Mandalay, near Myingyan District and Thazi Township.

Residents in Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, reported feeling intense tremors.
Buildings in Bangkok, Thailand, and Hanoi, Vietnam, also swayed noticeably during the quake.
Videos circulating online show dramatic scenes, including frames swinging violently in buildings across Bangkok.

Tourists in Chiang Mai were seen rushing outdoors to safety, while footage from Bangkok showed a hotel’s rooftop swimming pool overflowing, creating an unintended waterfall.
