A massive fire broke out at a renowned furniture factory situated at Kothe Khajuran road in Ludhiana’s Jagraon on Saturday afternoon.

While infrastructure, fixtures and goods worth crores were gutted in the fire, nobody was injured in the incident.

More than 10 fire-brigade teams remained on toes, trying to prevent the fire from spreading to unaffected parts of the factory. The fire was controlled after an operation spanning four hours.

Kuldeep Singh, owner of JAP Enterprises, Jagraon, said that the fire erupted in a remote corner of the factory and spread rapidly due to the winds.

Though the exact loss incurred in the incident was yet to be ascertained, Singh said that he suffered a loss of over Rs 20 crore.

Around four dozen workers and employees, who were working inside the premises at the time of fire, ran out of the factory.

A short circuit or spark due to welding machines is suspected to be the reason behind the blaze. Massive stocks of inflammable goods including soft wood, ply-boards and adhesives further catalysed the blaze.
