MASwings headquarters will be relocated to Sarawak, says Abang Jo

MASWINGS headquarters currently based in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah will be relocated to Sarawak, said Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

This follows the Sarawak government’s recent acquisition of the regional airline, which will be rebranded as AirBorneo.

"All MASwings staff will be given options during the transition period, and I believe this process will be completed by next year,” he said.

He said all current staff will be given the option of whether they would like to continue their service or to explore other opportunities.

Abang Johari also said he was confident of achieving Sarawak’s vision of becoming a developed and high-income region by 2030.

"We can achieve this through the development of key infrastructures, including 16 bridges along the Sarawak coastal roads, where some have been completed while others are still under construction.

“Perhaps all of them will be completed by 2028 and I believe that we can achieve our target by 2030, and our economy will be stronger with the infrastructure we are developing,” he said.

On the AirBorneo logo and livery design, the Premier said the selection process was ongoing and the best design will be chosen.

It was earlier reported that about 300 MASwings staff will be absorbed into AirBorneo which is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2026. – March 31, 2025
