PETALING JAYA: Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) recently launched the Asean Online Sales Day 2026 (AOSD 2026) – Malaysia Edition, reaffirming its commitment to empowering Malaysian businesses to leverage e-commerce to strengthen their domestic market presence while expanding into Asean and beyond.
The launch ceremony was officiated by Matrade CEO Datuk Indera Abu Bakar Yusof, reflecting Matrade’s continued commitment to advancing Malaysia’s digital trade agenda, with e-commerce serving as a key trade facilitation enabler to enhance the competitiveness of Malaysian exporters in regional and global markets.
Held annually in conjunction with Asean Day, AOSD is a regional initiative under the Asean Coordinating Committee on Electronic Commerce that promotes cross-border e-commerce, strengthens regional digital trade collaboration and creates greater opportunities for businesses to connect with consumers across Asean.
This year’s campaign adopts a whole-of-ecosystem approach by bringing together government agencies, e-commerce platforms, logistics providers, digital payment companies, technology solution providers and business associations to create greater commercial opportunities for Malaysian businesses while reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a leading digital trading nation.
As part of the AOSD 2026 campaign, Matrade organised two regional webinars ahead of the campaign to equip Malaysian businesses with the knowledge and capabilities to participate more effectively in cross-border e-commerce. The webinars featured industry experts from Teleport, salaam Market, Airwallex, DHL Express and YouBeli, alongside representatives from Matrade’s trade commissioner offices in Singapore and Manila, providing participants with valuable market insights and practical strategies to strengthen their export readiness.
The webinars served as strategic platforms to enhance exporters’ digital capabilities, strengthen awareness of cross-border e-commerce opportunities and foster stronger collaboration between Malaysian businesses and leading digital trade ecosystem players. Through these initiatives, participants gained practical knowledge to improve their export readiness and maximise opportunities across Asean’s growing digital marketplace.
Beyond capacity building, Matrade also worked closely with local and international ecosystem partners to mobilise participation in AOSD 2026 through merchant onboarding, promotional activities, digital marketing initiatives and commercial collaborations that will continue to create value for Malaysian businesses well beyond the campaign period.
AOSD 2026 is supported by an extensive network of ecosystem partners. A total of 39 partners are participating including leading e-commerce marketplaces, logistics providers, digital payment solution providers and technology partners such as Shopee, Hurix’s, DHL Express Malaysia, Teleport, Airwallex, Avenys, Salaam Market and YouBeli, alongside industry associations and other digital commerce stakeholders.
Abu Bakar said, “Asean Online Sales Day is not just about a single day of online promotions. It is about creating long-term opportunities for Malaysian businesses to embrace digital trade, strengthen their competitiveness and expand sustainably into regional and international markets.
“This programme also serves as a catalyst to further accelerate intra-Asean trade. Currently intra-Asean trade accounts for approximately 25% of Asean’s total trade and the room for growth are promising.”
While the AOSD campaign culminated on Aug 8, Matrade emphasised that the initiative forms part of its broader and ongoing efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s digital trade ecosystem. Through continuous exporter development programmes, strategic industry collaborations, digital capacity building and cross-border market facilitation, Matrade remains committed to supporting Malaysian businesses throughout their export journey.
