PETALING JAYA: Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), is debuting a customised Market Immersion Mission to Germany involving Malaysian mid-tier companies (MTC) to strengthen the country’s branding as a hub for sustainable sourcing in view of the Sustainability Due Diligence Act recently imposed by the European Union.

The mission, which began on Sunday and runs until Thursday, covers three cities – Berlin, Wolfsburg and Frankfurt. It is a proactive move to respond to the growing need for sustainable sourcing in Germany.

Additionally, the mission aims to help Malaysian MTC learn sustainable sourcing requirements by German companies, identify new export opportunities; and highlight mid-tier companies as case studies of Malaysia’s industrial capabilities.

Six Malaysian MTC from the machinery and equipment; plastics and rubber components and parts; and electrical and electronics industries are taking part in the inaugural programme.

Matrade deputy CEO Abu Bakar Yusof believes MTCs’ improved readiness in sustainability can catalyse Malaysia’s value-added proposition to potential buyers in Germany.

During the mission, Malaysian MTC will engage with several German companies such as Siemens AG and Volkswagen AG and its football club VfL Wolfsburg, apart from networking with business communities in Germany the likes of market linkers, policymakers, industry associations, and German small and medium enterprises, known as mittelstand.
