Mauricio Pochettino calls for former club Chelsea to be stripped of Premier League title

  • Mauricio Pochettino claims Tottenham Hotspur should have been awarded the 2016-17 Premier League title after Chelsea were punished for financial rule breaches from the Roman Abramovich era, arguing that Spurs did not compete under the same rules.
  • The USA head coach, who managed Chelsea for one season in 2023-24, suggested he might have kept his job at Tottenham in 2019 had they been crowned champions two years earlier, when Spurs achieved a club-record 86 points to finish seven points behind Antonio Conte's side.
  • Pochettino revealed he has remained in touch with former Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, noting that Levy now understands the painful nature of being ousted from the club following his departure last year.
  • The manager confirmed Tottenham contacted him in February last season regarding a return to north London, but the timing was wrong as he was already committed to his role with the United States national team.
  • Declaring his ongoing loyalty to Tottenham, Pochettino stated that Spurs are the only club he would be open to managing in any division, including the Championship, should the opportunity arise.
