With rising living costs, every ringgit you can reclaim counts. Yet many Malaysians miss out simply because they are unaware of all the tax reliefs available. Now that LHDN has released the complete 2025 tax relief list, it’s the perfect opportunity to check your finances and claim what’s rightfully yours.

LHDN released the complete 2025 tax relief list

Every taxpayer automatically receives:

  • RM9,000 in individual relief
  • Additional RM7,000 for disabled individuals.

Education and skills upgrading

For people who would like to further their studies and upgrade their skills can claim up to RM7,000 under education fees, eligible education categories include:

  • Courses in law, accounting, Islamic finance, technical or vocational fields
  • Scientific or technology fields
  • Master’s or PhD in any field
  • Skills development courses which are capped at RM2,000

To support spouse:

  • Spouse: RM4,000
  • Disabled spouse: RM6,000

Insurance, EPF and retirement contributions

Monthly contributions often count toward tax relief, including:

  • Life insurance premiums & EPF contributions (mandatory and voluntary): up to RM7,000
  • PRS or deferred annuity contributions: RM3,000
  • Medical and education insurance: RM4,000
  • PERKESO contributions: RM350

First-time homebuyer relief

New homebuyers between 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2027 may claim interest on home loans:

  • Homes priced up to RM500,000: RM7,000
  • Homes priced RM500,001-RM750,000: RM5,000

Parental relief

  • For children:
    • Under 18: RM2,000
    • Disabled child: RM8,000
  • Aged 18+ in full-time studies:
    • A Level, certificate, matrikulasi or pre university: RM2,000
    • Diploma, degree and above: RM8,000
  • Disabled and studying: additional RM8,000
  • Other child-related reliefs:
    • Childcare or kindergarten (6 years and below): RM3,000
    • SSPN savings: RM8,000
    • Breastfeeding equipment (once every 2 years): RM1,000

Health related reliefs

For yourself, spouse, or children:

  • Medical expenses for serious diseases
  • Fertility treatment
  • Vaccinations and dental care (capped at RM1,000 each)

Additional RM1,000 for:

  • Full medical check ups
  • Mental health consultations
  • COVID-19 tests
  • Self-monitoring devices

Total RM8,000 relief available for parents and grandparents:

  • Medical, dental, and special needs care
  • Full medical check ups (capped at RM1,000)

For children with learning disabilities, tax relief of up to RM6,000 is available for assessment and early intervention programmes, with overall medical relief capped at RM10,000.

Lifestyle reliefs

Claimable items include (up to RM2,500):

  • Books, magazines, journals and newspaper
  • Laptops, smartphones and tablets
  • Monthly internet bills and skills upgrading courses
  • Special sports relief of RM1,000 for:
    • Sports equipment
    • Gym memberships
    • Facility rentals
    • Approved competitions while
  • RM2,500 for eco-friendly items
    • EV charges and food waste compost machines
