Here’s something that doesn’t require any user interaction, but you’ll stay safer in the digital world, as Maxis has officially deployed an integrated AI-powered network firewall that covers both voice calls and SMS traffic.
Already live since last month, this is a new security layer sitting at the network edge, constantly watching incoming international traffic, analysing patterns around the clock, and shutting down suspicious activity in real time before it ever reaches users, all without charging customers anything extra.
The system filters out spam messages, international scam SMS disguised as local traffic, and messages sent through unofficial channels, while also cracking down on fake sender IDs that scammers love to exploit. On the voice side, it makes spoofing much harder by detecting masked numbers and blocking scam calls that try to hide who’s really calling.
According to Yap Chee Sun, Chief Network Officer at Maxis, fraud tactics are getting more complex by the day, and this AI-driven approach allows the telco to continuously adapt, reinforcing its promise of a fast, reliable, and secure network that customers can trust.
The announcement further cemented Maxis’s effort in combating digital scams as they’ve been blocking more than half a billion fraudulent calls and SMS, including messages loaded with malicious links and scam keywords, last year.
Beyond the tech, Maxis is also teaming up with national enforcement agencies and pushing scam awareness through its own customer channels, aligning its efforts with Malaysia’s broader cybersecurity priorities.
