Maxis is upgrading its network to handle the growing demand for AI and enterprise connectivity, recently deploying Nokia’s optical transport technology across its nationwide and cross-border infrastructure.
The deployment uses Nokia’s 1830 PSS and PSE-6 optical platforms to deliver up to 1.2 Tbps of capacity per channel. With C+L band technology expanding the transmission spectrum, Maxis can effectively double the carrying capacity of its existing fibre infrastructure without having to rely solely on laying new fibre.
The upgrade also brings Nokia’s WaveSuite automation into the network, helping Maxis improve resilience and manage the increasingly complex traffic demands coming from AI, cloud and enterprise workloads.
For Maxis Business customers, which already connects more than 50 data centres across Malaysia, the additional capacity means faster and more reliable connectivity for mission-critical applications. It also gives hyperscalers and OTT providers more room to support services such as 4K streaming, AI computing, Data Centre Interconnect and large-scale data backups.
The move comes as Malaysia continues to position itself as a regional digital hub, with growing investments in data centres and AI infrastructure driving demand for high-capacity, low-latency connectivity. By modernising its optical transport network, Maxis says it is building the infrastructure needed to support this next phase of digital growth.
