Maybank and World Wide Fund for Nature-Malaysia (WWF-Malaysia) are returning with the Run for Tigers event on Sunday, 2 August 2026, at Padang Semarak, Putrajaya Wetlands Park. The event runs from 6.00am to 10.30am and marks ten years of the two organisations working together on tiger conservation.
Part of the proceeds will go towards WWF-Malaysia’s tiger conservation efforts.
Two Routes, With A Costume Contest On The Side
You can choose between a 5KM or 10KM route. Maybank is also running a best-dressed costume contest, with the theme open to tigers, forest creatures, or any animal species found in the Belum-Temengor forest.
Registration is via JomRun, where you can choose between a Full Set or Bib Only option. The Full Set includes an event jersey, finisher medal, race bib, e-certificate, light refreshments, and personal accident insurance. The Bib Only option covers the race bib, e-certificate, light refreshments, and personal accident insurance.
RM5 from each Full Set registration and RM10 from each Bib Only registration goes to WWF-Malaysia’s conservation work. Registration closes on 1 August 2026.
A Decade Of Conservation Work In Belum-Temengor
Since 2016, Maybank and WWF-Malaysia have focused their partnership on the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex in Perak, a key habitat for the Malayan tiger. Ranger deployment, snare removal, and Orang Asli ranger training have all been part of the ground-level work over that period.
Snaring in Royal Belum has been reduced by over 90% since 2022, with zero active snares recorded since then. Ranger teams have expanded from 12 in 2015 to 150 today. Camera trap footage recorded a tigress with four cubs in 2022 and another with two cubs in late 2025, both from the same area.
In 2023, Royal Belum State Park became the first site in Malaysia and Southeast Asia to receive the Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS) accreditation. Fewer than 150 Malayan tigers are estimated to remain in the wild.
Supporting Anti-Poaching Rangers In The Field
If you’re not joining the run but would like to contribute, Maybank is also running a donation campaign via Maybank Heart to support WWF-Malaysia’s anti-poaching rangers with field supplies.
Donations to WWF-Malaysia are tax-exempt under Subsection 44(6) of the Income Tax Act 1967, as the organisation is approved by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia.
