A new Malaysia Airlines promotion is offering eligible Maybank cardholders a complimentary Business Class ticket when they buy one, but it comes with a steep spending requirement and several booking limits.

To qualify, cardholders must have spent at least RM60,000 in the six months before the ticket purchase date. The campaign is open only to selected Maybank and Maybank Islamic cards, including the American Express Platinum Charge Card, Maybank 2 Cards Reserve American Express Card, all Visa Infinite cards, and all World Elite Mastercard cards.

The Free Ticket Still Comes With Extra Costs

The promotion is presented as a buy-one-get-one Business Class deal, but the complimentary ticket covers only the base fare. Taxes, fees, and surcharges still need to be paid, and if multiple fares are involved, the lower fare will be treated as the complimentary ticket.

In other words, the second seat is discounted rather than completely free. How much you actually save will depend on the route, the taxes attached to it, and the fare available at the time of booking.

Booking Has To Go Through One Travel Agent

The offer is not available through Malaysia Airlines’ usual booking channels. Eligible cardholders must book through Corporate Information Travel Sdn Bhd (CIT), either by email or phone, between 27 March 2026 and 30 April 2026, during weekday working hours excluding public holidays.

CIT will first verify the cardholder’s eligibility with Maybank before confirming the booking. Payment must also be made using one of the eligible Maybank cards.

Travel Is Limited To Round Trips From Malaysia

The campaign applies only to Malaysia Airlines round-trip flights departing from Malaysia, with travel dates running from 28 March 2026 to 31 December 2026. One-way tickets are excluded, and the deal does not cover Business Suites.

The eligible cardholder must be one of the passengers, while both travellers must book and fly together on the same flight. The complimentary ticket cannot be used separately, saved for another trip, or split across different flights.

The Promotion Can End Early

Maybank has capped the total campaign budget at RM7 million and says the deal may end before 30 April 2026 if the allocation is fully used. The bank says it will update its campaign website once the budget has been exhausted.

Each eligible principal or supplementary cardholder may redeem the deal only once during the campaign. Supplementary card spending will be combined with the principal cardholder’s spending when checking whether the RM60,000 threshold has been met. If the combined amount qualifies, both the principal and each supplementary cardholder may redeem once, subject to Maybank’s verification.

Changes Are Allowed, But Flexibility Is Limited

Tickets issued under the campaign are non-refundable for customer-initiated cancellations, missed flights, and no-shows. Date changes are allowed, but travellers will need to pay any fare difference, airline-imposed charges, and a RM250 CIT service fee for each ticket.

This arrangement is likely to work better for travellers with fixed dates than for those who need more flexibility.

Who This Deal Is Really For

The promotion is likely to appeal most to cardholders who already spend heavily on an eligible Maybank card and were planning a Malaysia Airlines Business Class trip anyway. For everyone else, the RM60,000 spend requirement is likely to be the main obstacle.

Before calling it a straightforward free-ticket deal, look at the total out-of-pocket cost, including taxes, surcharges, booking conditions, and change fees. The promotion may still be worthwhile, but only when your travel plans already match the terms.
