Maybank restricts password resets to MAE app in new security move

MAYBANK has updated its digital banking security protocols, with password resets for Maybank2u now exclusively available through the MAE mobile app.

The change, which came into effect on 18 September, applies to users with individual or sole proprietorship accounts, while M2UBiz and M2E customers remain unaffected.

The bank said the move aims to enhance account security and streamline identity verification by integrating the reset process with Secure2u, its two-factor authentication platform.

To change a password, users must log in to the MAE app, navigate to the settings menu, select "Security", and then tap "Change Password". They will be required to enter their current password before choosing a new one.

For those who have forgotten their login credentials, a reset can be initiated by tapping "Forgot Password" or "Forgot Login Details" on the MAE login screen. Users must then verify their identity using the Secure2u system and the method they initially used to register with Maybank2u, which could include a debit or credit card, MAE wallet number, or access number.

The process also requires users to scan their NRIC or passport and take a self-portrait for biometric verification. Once verified, users may set a new password, with the entire process authenticated again via Secure2u.

Password resets are limited to once every 24 hours. Users who fail verification three times will be temporarily locked out of the reset function for 24 hours.

Customers who have lost access to their Secure2u-enrolled device must obtain a temporary M2U PIN from any Maybank ATM or branch. The PIN, which is valid for 48 hours, enables re-enrolment of a new device into the Secure2u system. - September 23, 2025
