WEST ZONE concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) said Wednesday that it had completed the upgrade of its South Septage Treatment Facility in Pamplona, Las Piñas City in compliance with stricter effluent standards.
The water concessionaire said the facility was the first of its three septage treatment facilities to be fully upgraded under the latest regulatory requirements.
The key enhancement was the integration of the conventional activated sludge four-stage Bardenpho process to improve the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater.
"This investment is about keeping our wastewater facilities aligned with increasingly stringent environmental requirements and continuously improving the quality of treatment we provide,” Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez said.
“The upgraded facility will enable us to improve effluent quality and reduce pollutant loading into the environment as we continue strengthening sanitation services in the southern West Zone," he added.
The South Septage Treatment Facility began operations in December 2015 and treats septage collected from septic tanks in the southern portion of Maynilad’s West Zone.
The facility currently has a treatment capacity of 300 cubic meters per day and serves customers in Pasay, Makati, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Cavite.
The company also operates septage treatment facilities in Project 7, Quezon City and in Dagat-Dagatan, Caloocan City.
Maynilad shares on Wednesday added P0.20, or 0.22 percent, to close at P18.26 each.
