MAYNILAD Water Services Inc. has completed a P200-million pipe replacement project in Las Piñas City, the West Zone water concessionaire said on Thursday.
More than 23 kilometers (km) of aging pipelines were replaced and upgraded to improve water pressure for about 50,000 customers, the company saod.
Maynilad said it replaced a total of 23.11 km of old, leaky and undersized pipes, enabling the recovery of about 3.73 million liters per day (MLD) of water in support of ongoing efforts to reduce system losses and improve overall network efficiency.
Water pressure in Barangays Manuyo Dos, Talon Singko, Talon Uno, Talon Tres and Pulang Lupa Dos were said to have increased to 16 pounds per square inch (psi) from around 4 psi previously. At this pressure, Maynilad said water could reach the third floor of a building without the need for a booster pump, depending on the building’s elevation and internal plumbing conditions.
“By replacing aging, leaky and undersized pipelines, we are strengthening our distribution network to better accommodate growing demand while ensuring the continued delivery of safe, reliable and sustainable water services,” Maynilad President and CEO Ramoncito Fernandez said.
The Las Piñas pipe replacement project is part of Maynilad’s Non-Revenue Water Management Program, which focuses on reducing water losses and improving system efficiency through the establishment of district metered areas, advanced network diagnostics, active leak detection and repair, pipe replacement initiatives and strict meter management.
Maynilad shares on Thursday closed unchanged at P17.00 apiece.
