MAYNILAD Water Services, Inc. said Monday that it had reduced water losses by 7.7 percentage points in 2025, ending the year with a non-revenue water (NRW) level of 30.7 percent from 38.4 percent in 2024.
In a disclosure, the West Zone concessionaire said the reduction translated to 256 million liters per day (MLD) of recovered water, “enough to meet the daily needs of more than 1.6 million people.”
On a full-year basis, the company said it achieved a year-to-date average NRW of 34.9 percent, a 5-percent improvement from 2024.
Maynilad said this was achieved through scaled-up interventions to accelerate leak detection, leak repair, meter replacement and pipeline rehabilitation.
The company said it repaired over 70,000 small leaks, 22 percent more than the previous year, as well as 206 large pipe leaks in primary distribution systems, while 82 kilometers of old pipelines were replaced in high-loss areas.
“This progress reflects the collective effort of our teams and the effectiveness of our multi-pronged approach to NRW reduction,” Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Christopher Lichauco said.
NRW refers to treated water that is produced and enters the distribution system but is not billed to customers because of leaks, theft, inaccurate meters, or unauthorized use.
The company wants to reduce NRW to 25 percent by 2027 under its business plan for the 2023–2027 rate rebasing period.
In a separate disclosure, Maynilad also said that it was programming around P34.60 billion in capital expenditures (capex) for 2026, the bulk of which would be used to continue to improve services and to put up new water infrastructure.
“The company confirms that its approved capital expenditure for 2026 under its business plan amounts to approximately P34.60 billion, forming part of its P163-billion capital expenditure program for 2023 to 2027,” it said.
This year’s capex program “covers projects related to water sources and production, wastewater treatment, operations support, non-revenue water management, and customer service and information systems,” the company added.
Maynilad shares on Monday slipped two centavos to close at P18.00 apiece.
