Mayor Inderjit Kaur on Tuesday conducted surprise inspections at several static compactor sites across the city and issued a stern warning over non-functional units and delays in repair work.
The inspections were carried out at static compactor sites near Pavilion Mall, Cheema Chowk and the backside of Vardhman Mills on Chandigarh Road.
Accompanied by Joint Commissioner Vineet Kumar and Assistant Commissioner Neeraj Jain, the Mayor reviewed the functioning of the compactors and expressed concern over the condition of several units.
Kaur directed the concerned officials to take up the matter with the contractor responsible for the maintenance and repair of the static compactors and ensure that the faults are rectified without further delay.
She also instructed officials of the Health Branch to maintain cleanliness in and around the compactor sites and ensure proper sanitation standards are upheld.
The Mayor said extensive cleanliness drives were being carried out under the ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ campaign and that the efforts had started yielding positive results with the active support and cooperation of residents.
She stressed that maintaining the city’s sanitation infrastructure was essential to sustaining the gains achieved through the cleanliness campaign.
Kaur further warned that if the situation did not improve at the ground level, action would also be taken against the contractor responsible for maintaining the compactors.
