Mayor Suman Bahamani conducted a surprise inspection of various drains, the sewerage system and Intermediate Pumping Station (IPS) in the twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri on Tuesday.

During the inspection, she was accompanied by Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, Assistant Engineer Surender Dahiya, Chief Sanitation Inspector Vinod Beniwal, Harjeet Singh, Municipal Councillors Sandeep Dhiman and Ujjwal Thakur, BJP leader Krishan Singla and Pawan Pratap Yadav, along with other officials from the Municipal Corporation and Public Health department.

The Mayor’s convoy first reached the Azad Nagar area falling under ward-10, where she closely inspected the main drain passing near Khalsa College and the Yamuna Canal and assessed the sanitation system.

Thereafter, she reached the Intermediate Pumping Station (IPS) being operated by the Public Health department near Jindal Park. The IPS was found to be non-functional and filled with dirt and silt. The Mayor sought an explanation from officials of the concerned department over why the station was closed despite the approaching monsoon season. She sternly instructed officials to restart the station immediately and clear the accumulated filth.

Later, the Mayor reached Lajpat Nagar in ward-15 and assessed the ground conditions of drains and sewers. She issued strict instructions to officials of the Public Health department and Municipal Corporation, stating that sewerage systems and drains should not be cleaned superficially but thoroughly, with silt and dirt removed from the depths.

The Mayor also visited Kuldeep Nagar, where she found the drain cleaning process moving slowly. She directed officials to speed up the work and complete it at the earliest.

During the inspection, she also thoroughly reviewed the drains near Jodian Gurudwara in ward-18 and the Jammu Colony crematorium in ward-13.

Accompanied by Additional Municipal Commissioner Dheeraj Kumar, Chief Sanitation Inspector Harjeet Singh and Municipal Councillor Bhanu Pratap, the Mayor visited Ashok Vihar in Jagadhri to review drain cleaning work.

She instructed officials that all IPS and sewerage systems must remain in proper condition and operational at all times. The first phase of drain cleaning must be completed within the deadline. “Any negligence or carelessness in the work will not be tolerated. If waterlogging occurs anywhere, the concerned officials will face direct action,” the Mayor said.
