My research findings as management educator and consultant repeatedly confirmed that no matter how many good people we gather, most workplace teams settle into the same old rut. Once the initial enthusiasm dissipates, satisfied with so-so results. So, when I've the opportunity to meet for conversation with Mayor Sitti Djalia of Isabela City, I asked her: “How do you create an environment that successfully addresses the many challenges that managers and employees deal with while producing oustanding performance?”

Mayor Sitti Djalia's answer is simple: “You have to create an environment where everyone is a leader. That is, an environment where everyone works together, takes the initiative, assumes ownership, is willing to deal with diffult issues, and accepts accountability for the team's results; an environment that is in stark contrast with one in which the manager tries to get everyone to produce results.”

This is a fundamental change in the way that most work entities operate. Evidently in May 2024, I visited the Mayor's office in the City Government of Isabela to oberve a workplace environment that produced productive performance and make the employees' work life more exciting, enjoyable, and fulfilling. Service was measured using a balanced scorecard, which means productivity, timeliness, and quality weren't looked at in a vacuum any longer. Along these lines, data & information were posted & shared with all the employees. (https://isabelacity.gov.ph)

Isabela people, business communities and employees are so grateful of Mayor Sitti Djalia's exceptional leadership and dedication to their City. The good Mayor is currently seeking reelection for her third term as a unifying leader for Isabela City in Basilan, Philippines. (uclg-aspac.org>mayor-sitti-djalia-turabin-hataman<)

Dispite of her very tight schedules hitting the campaign trails, as a caring mother, Mayor Sitti Djalia managed to set aside time to visit her son, who's an undergraduate at a reputable university in Malaysia. At the sidelines, she reached out to some friends and relatives.
