MBC on Tiglao column:
We own, operate radio stations, not Salim
WE respectfully write regarding the statement published in Rigoberto Tiglao’s Aug. 10, 2026 column in The Manila Times, which says DZRH and 96.3 Easy Rock are controlled by Indonesian businessman Anthony Salim.
We trust that The Manila Times will recognize and correct this mistake.
For the record, DZRH and 96.3 Easy Rock are owned and operated by the Manila Broadcasting Co. (MBC). Both radio stations operate under MBC’s valid legislative franchise and are members of the MBC Media Group. MBC is a publicly listed Philippine company. Neither DZRH nor 96.3 Easy Rock is owned or controlled by Mr. Salim.
MBC likewise complies with Section 11 (1) of Article XVI of the 1987 Constitution, which provides that the ownership and management of mass media shall be limited to Filipino citizens or to corporations, cooperatives or associations wholly owned and managed by Filipino citizens.
In the interest of’ accuracy and fairness, we respectfully request that The Manila Times publish an appropriate correction that expressly acknowledges that the statement about the alleged ownership or control of DZRH and 96.3 Easy Rock by Mr. Salim was erroneous, and clarifies that both stations are owned and operated by MBC.
We appreciate the newspaper’s recognition of the need to promptly correct substantive errors, particularly when the error concerns the ownership and control of Philippine media entities. A clear correction will help prevent the public from repeating or relying on the inaccurate statement.
We remain supportive of responsible public discourse and of the important role of the press in informing the public. At the same time, factual accuracy is essential, especially in statements about the ownership, control and operations of Philippine mass media.
