MBC welcomes Right to Information Act

THE Makati Business Club (MBC) on Wednesday said it welcomed approval of House Bill (HB) 9397 or the proposed Right to Information Act, which seeks to guarantee the public's right to access government records, documents and transactions.

"This marks the first time in nearly two decades that this governance reform has cleared this milestone in the lower chamber," the MBC said in a statement.

For the business sector, the proposed law — approved by the House of Representatives on Tuesday — means policy predictability and level playing field that will drive investment, it added.

Enactment of the bill also mean the creation of an online portal through

which Filipinos can file and monitor their requests for information.

The business group said it was looking forward to the completion of the House process and subsequent resolution of the bill in the bicameral conference committee.
