SHAH ALAM, 6 Jan — Some 16,800 students from low-income families will be receiving school aid from Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, this year.
Yayasan MBI chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said he hopes the aid that will be channeled to the students — some 300 of them from each of the 56 state constituencies — will help to ease the burden on their parents for the 2025 school year.
“Once we’ve decided on a date to disburse the aid, we will look into the selection process of the students and what kinds of aid they will receive. There has been suggestions that we provide school uniforms for them.
“Yayasan MBI is committed to reducing the expenditure of low-income parents and we also hope this will increase the students’ enthusiasm to start the new school year,” Ahmad Azri said.
Ahmad Azri recently stated that Yayasan MBI has set aside RM15 million this year for uplifting the education sector in Selangor.
Part of the cash aid will be used for Program Tuisyen Rakyat Selangor (PTRS), back-to-school programmes, school infrastructure repairs, and to help parent-teacher associations (PIBG).
Last year, MBI spent RM1.7 million in school aid on 16,800 students from low-income households, with each student receiving RM100.
