MELAKA: The Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) has spent nearly RM10 million to carry out beautification works in its administrative areas, especially in tourist spots such as Banda Hilir, in preparation for Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024).
Its mayor, Datuk Shadan Othman said the works cover various aspects, including landscaping, lighting, and upgrading various public facilities to provide comfort to tourists, as well as providing new attractions to visitors to Melaka.
“MBMB is ready to welcome TMM 2024. Almost 90 per cent of beautification work has been done, and the rest needs to be completed in less than two months.
“For example, we can see that routes from the traffic lights near the MBMB building in Ayer Keroh up to Bandar Hilir are decorated with multi-coloured lights,” he told reporters after officiating Dataran Bandaraya MBMB playground here today.
He said apart from that, seasonal plants or multi-coloured annual plants such as loropetalum chinensis, ehretia microphylla, juniperus chinensis, and marigold have also been planted in tourist hotspots.
Earlier, he said the playground at Dataran Bandaraya MBMB has been upgraded at a cost of RM200,000 for the convenience of the public, especially children.
Shadan also said that for the safety of children, the upgrading work included installing new playground equipment such as slides and swings and disabled-friendly facilities. -Bernama
