MBPP orders food premises found with rat droppings to close

BALIK PULAU – The Penang City Council (MBPP) has ordered three food premises to close because they did not meet the hygiene standards set, including due to the discovery of rat droppings.

MBPP mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang said his enforcement team conducted a surprise operation on Tuesday and found that the three food premises had neglected basic hygiene.

“The three premises were ordered to be closed immediately for 14 days to carry out thorough cleaning because the enforcement team’s inspection found two shops had rat droppings while one had a grading score below 50%.

“In the inspection, there are also premises owners who put raw food less than 20cm from the floor level, channelling waste or oil into public drains, badly maintained grease traps and some other offences that give a bad impression and negative impact on cooking management,” he said when contacted here yesterday.

He said his team also issued eight compounds in the operation involving offences including operating a food premises without a licence, not undergoing a doctor’s examination, and not displaying the licence in a visible place at the premises. – Bernama, July 28, 2022
