Amid growing public expectations for an improved civic infrastructure and efficient execution of development projects, the Municipal Corporation (MC) authorities have cracked the whip on its engineering and technical wings, directing officials to ensure quality, transparency and timely completion of all ongoing works across the city.
Chairing a review meeting of the Technical Branch, MC Commissioner Narendra Kumar issued a stern warning that negligence, substandard workmanship and undue delays would not be tolerated.
He directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of development projects and ensure that all works are carried out in accordance with prescribed standards and completed within the stipulated timeframe.
“Any laxity in development works or compromise with quality will invite strict action. Officials must regularly inspect projects and ensure that any shortcomings are addressed without delay,” Kumar said while reviewing the progress of various civic works.
The Commissioner instructed engineers and field staff to accelerate the pace of ongoing projects related to roads, water drainage systems and other basic infrastructure. He said the Municipal Corporation is committed to providing better amenities to residents and that regular inspections would be conducted to assess both the quality and progress of works.
Kumar emphasised that projects linked to public convenience should be completed on priority so that citizens can benefit from the improved infrastructure.
The MC authorities also laid stress on the city’s beautification efforts. The Commissioner said ongoing projects would be completed expeditiously, while plans were being prepared for new initiatives aimed at enhancing the city’s look.
“The objective is to provide quality infrastructure and create a clean and aesthetically appealing urban environment to the residents,” he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta has directed all departments concerned to ensure that flood prevention, urban flood management and drainage improvement works are completed well before the onset of the monsoon so that no urban or rural area in the district faces waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
He emphasised that preventive action taken before the monsoon is critical to protecting public infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted mobility and minimising inconvenience to citizens.
The DC directed departments to identify and revisit all locations from where waterlogging complaints had been received during previous monsoon seasons. He instructed officials to undertake field inspections and ensure permanent corrective measures wherever recurring issues have been observed.
“Every department must proactively assess vulnerable locations within its jurisdiction and ensure that manpower, machinery and response systems are in place before the rains arrive,” Gupta added.
