MCA slams Zahid for going against collective decision, calls for resignation

KUALA LUMPUR – Barisan Nasional (BN) component MCA has accused coalition chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi of going against the collective decision by the BN Supreme Council and not communicating its resolution “correctly” to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon cited a viral photograph on social media showing an alleged letter to the Agong by Zahid, claiming BN supports Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.

“I wish to emphasise that the claims in the letter are completely out of line with the decision made by the BN Supreme Council in both meetings on November 22.

“In last night’s BN Supreme Council meeting, MCA and other BN component parties questioned why Zahid had gone against BN’s resolution. At first, Zahid was in denial, but he admitted afterwards when evidence was produced.

“In both meetings, the BN Supreme Council had resolved that BN will not support anyone as the prime minister at this moment,” said Chong in a statement.

He reiterated the call for Zahid to resign, saying the Umno president is no longer fit to continue leading BN.

Chong said Zahid should be replaced by Umno deputy president Datuk Mohamad Hasan as proposed during the BN Supreme Council meeting last night.

The three-page letter that has been widely shared states that 30 BN MPs are in support of Anwar to be prime minister.

None of the coalition chiefs have managed to obtain a majority of 112 seats to be announced as prime minister.

In GE15, PH won 82 seats, Perikatan Nasional 73, and BN 30. Smaller coalitions Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah won 23 and six respectively, while Warisan won three.

Smaller parties and independents make up four seats, while Padang Serai will hold a delayed poll on December 7 after the death of one candidate. – The Vibes, November 23, 2022
