
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar on Tuesday reviewed the progress of bio-remediation and waste management operations at the Okhla landfill site, directing officials to expedite bio-mining activities to ensure the timely clearance of legacy waste.
During his visit to the landfill site, the Commissioner was briefed by MCD officials on the status of bio-mining operations and other ongoing works. Deputy Commissioner (Central Zone) Shashwat Saurabh, Engineer-in-Chief PC Meena and other senior officials were also present.
Khirwar inspected the functioning of trommel machines being used for bio-mining at the site and instructed officials to accelerate the process so that the accumulated waste could be cleared within the stipulated timeframe.
The Commissioner also inspected the Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste plant, the Okhla Engineered Sanitary Landfill site and the Okhla Compost Plant as part of the review of waste management infrastructure.
Later, Khirwar visited the Krishna Market Community Centre in Lajpat Nagar along with local councillor Arjun Pal Singh to inspect the ongoing renovation work and the Senior Citizens’ Recreation Centre being constructed at the site.
During the visit, the Commissioner interacted with local residents and directed officials to complete the construction work at the earliest. He also instructed officials to outsource vacant floors of the community centre to enhance MCD revenue generation.
