KUALA LUMPUR – The alleged bullying incident involving a group of Kuala Kangsar Malay College students is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing hurt.
Kuala Kangsar district police chief Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said a report on the case was received on September 24.
According to him, the perpetrators, if convicted, can be jailed for a year or fined as much as RM2,000, or both.
“Police found out that messages about this incident have gone viral on social media since yesterday.
“In this incident, the victim was a Form 4 student who was said to have been beaten by a Form 5 student,” he was quoted as saying by Getaran, The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal.
Omar explained that the victim was taken to Kuala Kangsar Hospital by the school for further treatment.
“The doctor who treated the victim confirmed the results of the ‘Normal Physical Finding’ examination – the victim did not suffer any serious injuries,” he said.
Earlier, the case went viral on Twitter, when a woman claimed through a thread that MCKK’s management failed to deal with the matter properly, including imposing appropriate punishment on the students involved.

She claimed that the injustice occurred because the bullies in question came from influential families, some of whom held important positions in the school.
The case caught the attention of Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
He expressed surprise that the victim’s parents had to write a letter to the school to get an explanation.
“This is intolerable! Just three days ago, the deputy minister (education) informed about bullying cases in schools that are becoming more and more common. 4,994 cases were recorded as of last month.
“This is a very worrying trend. Even more surprising when I read this news. Until the parents had to write a letter to get the school’s attention. Bullying victims go to the hospital, but (what about) those who bully?” he said.
It is even more troubling, Syed Saddiq added, when there are rumours that the school’s decision had something to do with the “background” of the bullies.
“If this is real, we should never tolerate this kind of nonsense. I hope the Education Ministry can intervene as soon as possible and take appropriate action against these bullies.
“Justice should be given where it is due,” he said.
