MCMC addresses connectivity issues in Kampung Sungai Relai

THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has responded to concerns over poor mobile coverage in Kampung Sungai Relai, Gua Musang, by conducting an on-site investigation and committing to long-term solutions.

“MCMC recently visited Kampung Sungai Relai in Gua Musang to listen to residents' concerns over poor communication coverage in the area,” the Commission said in a media statement issued on 30 July 2025.

A 76-metre communications tower already exists in the area, but MCMC confirmed that it is currently used only for microwave transmission to link two other towers and does not provide network coverage to local users.

“The test results confirmed that there is no coverage in the area,” MCMC stated, following a signal quality assessment conducted during the visit.

In response, the Commission has taken several steps to address the issue. Notices under Section 51(2) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 have been issued to service providers that failed to meet coverage standards in the area.

MCMC has also identified a proposed site for a new tower to be developed under the National Digital Network (JENDELA) initiative, aimed at delivering broader and more reliable coverage to the village.

“MCMC also held discussions with service providers to consider upgrading the existing tower in the area to support 4G coverage using a more stable fibre optic connection,” the Commission added.

MCMC reaffirmed its commitment to monitor progress and ensure the residents of Kampung Sungai Relai receive quality communications services. - July 30, 2025
