The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is working with Meta and police to investigate a social media post insulting the Sultan of Selangor, after a suspect denied uploading the content.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is working with Meta and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to examine and conduct forensic analysis in connection with the investigation into a social media post depicting an image insulting to the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said this was necessary after a man, who was called up to have his statement recorded by the MCMC, denied uploading the content believed to contain elements of 3R (royalty, religion, race) that insulted the Sultan of Selangor.

“Among the matters currently under scrutiny is whether there are elements of fake accounts or an agent provocateur, who deliberately produces, creates fake accounts to upload content that then victimises other parties as well as causing public anger,” he said.

Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said this at the global supply crisis briefing and post-Cabinet meeting press conference here today.

He said that so far, they have not ruled out the possibility of fake accounts being created to upload 3R-related content, and will leave it to the PDRM and MCMC to make further statements.

On Monday (April 27), the MCMC recorded the statement of an individual believed to be the administrator of the Facebook account “HuaYan The Pureland Learning Centre”, regarding the posting of an edited image insulting to the Sultan of Selangor.
