
KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s digital innovation has taken center stage as 10 ICT projects led by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) have been shortlisted for the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2026.
The projects are part of an elite selection of 360 initiatives from 194 International Telecommunication Union (ITU) member countries, competing across 18 specialized categories.
Driving global digital excellence
In a statement today, MCMC highlighted that the shortlisted projects reflect Malaysia’s commitment to building a resilient, ethical, and inclusive digital ecosystem. The initiatives range from AI-driven agriculture and disaster recovery to media literacy and e-waste management.
The shortlisted projects and their respective categories are:
#ASEAN 5G Skills Framework: Capacity development and the role of government in ICT.
#Communications & Infrastructure Disaster Recovery (CIDR) Plan: Building security and confidence in ICT use.
#Human-Centred Digital Governance Through MCMC’s Five-Year Plan 2030 (Category AL C6 - Enabling environment).
#Five-Year Plan 2030: Human-centred digital governance and enabling environments.
#AgriNXT (Oil Palm & Livestock Chapters): Empowering farmers through AI-based cattle weight estimation and disease detection in padi.
#MCMC's AGRINXT Northern Chapter: Empowering Malaysian Livestock Farmers WithAI-Based Cattle Weight Estimation (Category AL C7 - ICT applications: benefits in all aspects of life, E-agriculture).

#Internet Safety Campaign (KIS): Promoting ethical dimensions in the Information Society.

A national call to action
MCMC is urging all Malaysians to support these national innovations by casting their votes, which will play a crucial role in securing global recognition for the country.
“This is a moment of national pride. We call upon all Malaysians to cast their votes and help showcase our technological milestones on the world stage,” the commission stated.
How to Vote
The public can cast their votes online via the official ITU portal at https://www.itu.int/net4/wsis/stocktaking/Prizes/2026/Vote.
Key Voting Information:
Deadline: May 13, 2026.
Requirement: Voters must register an account on the portal before voting.
Physical Assistance: For those requiring guidance, MCMC has set up a dedicated voting booth at the Communications Ministry Complex lobby. The booth is open daily from 10am to 3pm until the closing date.
