THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has called in an individual to assist in an investigation into the uploading of allegedly extreme and offensive content directed at the Selangor Sultan, in a case authorities say touches on sensitive 3R elements.
The regulator said it is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police to investigate the matter involving content targeting His Majesty Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
According to MCMC, a statement was recorded today from an individual identified as the administrator of the Facebook account “HuaYan The Pureland Learning Centre” to assist in the ongoing probe.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both upon conviction.
Separately, the police are pursuing investigations under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to three years, or both if convicted.
The case is also being examined under Section 504 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term, fine or both upon conviction.
MCMC said it views the dissemination of “extreme offensive content” against the Royal Institution seriously, warning that such actions could undermine public confidence as well as societal harmony and order.
The commission reminded the public to use social media in an ethical and responsible manner, stressing that any content deemed offensive, seditious or defamatory — particularly when involving the Royal Institution — will be met with firm legal action. - April 27, 2026
