KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will help the Health Ministry cover the cost of sending medicines by post to patients under a nationwide programme starting Oct 1.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the initiative would be funded through an allocation of about RM5 million and would be available to patients who opt for the postal medicine delivery service, Bernama reported.
“Previously patients had to pay for the delivery of medicines by post but starting Oct 1, all those involved will no longer have to pay and the cost will be fully borne by the government through MCMC,” he said.
He said this after visiting the National Digital Health Connectivity and Ecosystem Driver (PERSADA) initiative at the Padang Besar Health Clinic here today.
Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and Perlis Health director Dr Ghazali Chik.
In June, Fahmi was reported as saying that the government would fully cover the cost of delivering medicines to about 80,000 patients a month under the Postal Medicine Programme (UMP), through a collaboration between MCMC and the Health Ministry.
The programme is intended to make it easier for patients to receive their prescribed medicines without having to collect them in person from health facilities. - September 26, 2026
