THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has expressed serious concern over the circulation of a video allegedly depicting a sexual misconduct incident involving students at a secondary school in Melaka.
In a statement issued today, MCMC urged the media to exercise responsibility and adhere to ethical standards in reporting the case, warning against the use of sensational content that could compromise investigations or inflict emotional harm on the victim.
“Media practitioners are reminded not to disclose any sensitive information that could lead to the identification of the victim,” the statement said, adding that such disclosure is prohibited under Section 15 of the Child Act 2001.
The public has also been cautioned that sharing or distributing the video or any related material through online services constitutes a potential offence under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
MCMC confirmed it is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and online service providers to ensure that any content which could interfere with ongoing investigations or harm the victim’s wellbeing is swiftly removed from social media platforms.
“The Commission will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary enforcement actions to uphold the integrity of the investigation and safeguard the rights and dignity of the affected individuals,” it said. - October12, 2025
