A 27-YEAR-OLD mechanic has been formally charged at the Sesyen Court here with committing an armed robbery at a convenience store in Kampung Berangan, Tumpat, in early September.

Muhamad Azmie Akid Azama appeared before Judge Zulkpli Abdullah on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty and requested a trial.

He is accused of using a sword to threaten a 15-year-old during the incident, which took place at 10.55 p.m. on September 2.

According to the charge, the suspect carried out the robbery with a weapon at the small retail outlet, instilling fear in the teenage victim while attempting to steal property.

The charge was filed under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397, which carries a potential sentence of up to 14 years’ imprisonment, in addition to a fine or corporal punishment.
